Who We Are and What This Policy Covers
Hey there! We are Wanderoak, an adventurous and smart creative studio. We make really great stuff with purposeful design to help inspiring people and businesses make a positive difference.
Joke aside, we do take your privacy seriously. Below we explain how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.
Information We Receive and Collect
We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so–for example, to communicate with you, to provide you with services you asked for, or to make our website and content better.
We receive and collect information if and when you provide information to us, and automatically through using out website. Let’s go over the information:
Information you provide by completing forms on our website — you provide us information when you fill out forms on our website, such as our Send us a message and Get your project started forms. This also includes our mailing list opt-in form.
Information you provide when completing a transaction through our website — if you buy something from us–a hosting plan, for example–you will provide additional personal and payment information that is required to process the transaction and your payment, such as your name, credit card information, and contact information.
If you’d like to submit a data access request to see what information we have on this website about you, you may do so here.
Cookies and Other Technologies
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
How And Why We Use Information
Purposes for Using Information
We use information about you as mentioned above and for the purposes listed below:
To provide our paid services — for example, to exchange communications with you regarding our contracts, host your website, or charge you for any of our paid services;
To further develop and improve our website — for example by adding new features and content that we think our users will enjoy or find helpful;
To monitor and analyze trends and better understand how users interact with our website — helps us improve our website and make it easier to use;
To monitor and prevent any problems with our website — to protect the security of our website, detect and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities, fight spam, and protect the rights and property of Wanderoak and others, which may result in us declining a transaction or the use of our website;
To communicate with you — for example through an email, about offers and promotions offered by Wanderoak we think will be of interest to you, solicit your feedback, or keep you up to date on Wanderoak and our products and services; and
To personalize your experience using our website — by targeting our marketing messages to specific groups of our users (for example, those who have a expressed interest in a specific subject).
Legal Bases for Collecting and Using Information
A note here for those in the European Union about our legal grounds for processing information about you under EU data protection laws, which is that our use of your information is based on the grounds that:
The use is necessary in order to fulfill our commitments to you under the agreements we have with you or is necessary to administer your account — for example, in order to charge you for a paid hosting plan or learn about you or your business as it relates to creating the best website possible for you; or
We have a legitimate interest in using your information — for example, to provide and update our website, to improve our website so that we can offer you an even better user experience, to communicate with you, to monitor and prevent any problems with our Services, and to personalize your experience; or
You have given us your consent — for example before you are added to our mailing list.
We do not sell our users’ private personal information.
We share information about you with a few third parties that help us use the information as described above. For example, we use Google Analytics to help us understand how you use our website, Stripe to process payments, and Facebook for retargeting and understanding how you use our website.
We may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.
How Long We Keep Information
We often discard information about you when we no longer need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it — which are described in the section above on How and Why We Use Information — and we are not legally required to continue to keep it.
For example, if you have provided us payment information for recurring payments on a hosting plan, we retain your credit card details (within Stripe, encrypted) only as long as our hosting contract exists.
However, other information (for example, information provided upon form completion, contact details, and support requests) is normally maintained for our records unless (and until) you ask us to delete that information.
You have a few choices available when it comes to information about you:
Limit the information that you provide — when you are submitting forms on our website, you can choose not to provide the optional information. Please keep in mind that if you do not provide this information, we may not be able to provide you with the best possible service.
Opt-out of electronic communications — you may opt out of receiving promotional messages from us. Just follow the instructions in those messages. If you opt out of promotional messages, we may still send you other messages, like those about your account and legal notices.
If you are located in certain countries, including those that fall under the scope of the European General Data Protection Regulation (AKA the “GDPR”), data protection laws give you rights with respect to your personal data, subject to any exemptions provided by the law, including the rights to:
- Request access to your personal data;
- Request correction or deletion of your personal data;
- Object to our use and processing of your personal data;
- Request that we limit our use and processing of your personal data; and
- Request portability of your personal data.
If you have an account on our website, you can usually access, correct, or delete your personal data using your account settings, but if you aren’t able to do that, or you would like to contact us about one of the other rights, scroll down to How to Reach Us to, well, find out how to reach us.
EU individuals also have the right to make a complaint to a government supervisory authority.
